Some well known Carson City residents have tossed their hats and their hopes into the race for high local office:
Curtis Horton, former public Works Deputy Director, says he’s itching to get back into city business like roads, storm systems and city-wide operating systems. Horton says he is committed to working with all city departments to keep Carson City safe, clean and inviting.
Former Fire Chief Stacey Giomi and Ward 1 Supervisor for Ward 1 looks to hold on to his Supervisor’s seat for another four years. He now holds the position as Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness at Nevada Health Center.
Scott Hoen has filed for the office of city Clerk/Recorder. Hoen has 30 years of experience in public and private finance. City Clerk/Recorder Hoen is already fluid in elections, private and public sector finance, public record filings and insurance. He vows to make it easier to access public records.
Carson City Treasurer Andrew Rasor filed to retain his position downtown. He’s helped to revise the city’s investment policies and with an additional program able to implement a new credit card and electronic payment system.
Jason Stinson is running for School District Trustee District 1. Stinson has been quoted as saying “We must, as a community, fix our broken education system and close the educational gaps and strengthen our education future.
Sheriff Kenny Furlong is aiming for a 6th four-year-term in office. Sheriff Furlong praised his department for riding out the Covid-19 onslaught as well as weaving our way through lot of social, political and pandemic unrest that has swept across our country as well as Europe, Asia and Africa.
City Assessor Kimberly Adams began her career with the Assessor’s Office in the year 2000 as a property appraiser technician and was eventually promoted to senior deputy assessor. If Adams is elected, it will be the first lady Carson City Assessor.
Carson City School District Trustee for District 4 Richard Varner is President of the School Board. He’s running for re-election to the board. Varner has a long and distinguished career with law enforcement supervising the Major Crimes Unit in Carson City and retired after a term with Department of Public Service and many other law enforcement roles.
Stacie Wilke-McCulloch currently serves on the Carson City School Board, was board president for a while, served various PTAs, Childrens’ Museum Board, Food for Thought Board, Carson City Parks and Recreation Board and Carson City Pop Warner.
Also filing Monday was Carson City’s Don Tatro who is seeking a full term in the state Senate.
Adam Laxalt filed on Monday challenging Catherine Cortez Masto who is seeking a second six year senatorial term in office.
And Governor Steve Sisolak has filed for re-election
