The Jazz & Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2022 poster and program cover art contest is Mike Bond. His design, “Jazz Guitar,” was selected from ten entries to highlight the 19th annual Carson City music and art festival. Honorable mention goes to eleven-year-old Jasmine Sanchez for her entries, “Jazzy Uno” and “Jazzy Dos.”
Bond is an artist who lives in Sparks, NV, and was originally from Cedar Falls, Iowa. He is known for oil paintings of landscapes and western scenes. He will be demonstrating his work during the Open Studios Tour on August 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum as part of the 17-day Jazz & Beyond Music and Art Festival.
Jazz & Beyond will feature several free concerts at many Carson City venues. It opens with the Reno Jazz Orchestra on Friday, August 5, outdoors at the Governor’s Mansion. The country-themed Day at the Silver Saddle Ranch will be on Saturday, August 13. The festival will close with the Mile High Jazz Band on Count Basie’s birthday, August 21, at the Capital Amphitheater.
The festival will include a three-day Open Studios Tour, Friday, August 19, to Sunday, August 21, with more than 20 artists demonstrating their work at nine locations. This year they include private studios, the Carson City Historical Society’s Carriage House, the Nevada State Museum, and on Friday only, the historic Bliss Mansion. Each artist will have one or more works on display at the Nevada Artists Association (NAA) Gallery, 449 W. King Street, from July 30 to September 9, as part of the NAA Summer Show.
A schedule of events will be on the website Milehighjazz.com and will be updated frequently. Annual Jazz & Beyond Festivals are presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and are supported by grants from the Carson City Cultural Commission, the Nevada Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, and by private donations.
